FROM TOLES HIGHER TO ADVANCED

To all Toles Higher graduates who wish to develop their language and Legal English skills before moving on to Toles Advanced. You can finally bridge the gap.The course offers the opportunity to revise and retain the knowledge obtained at the Toles Higher level and at the same time focuses on improving both general and legal writing skills.

The course starts on 3 October 2011. More details (prices and dates) will be available in mid-August.

New in LEC: Practical Legal Writing Course

PRACTICAL LEGAL WRITING COURSE

If you need to learn how to draft documents in English, if you need to develop and improve your legal writing skills in practice, this course has been tailored just for you:

- 30 hour course – divided into 15 sessions

- small groups – around eight lawyers per group

- held at our training Centre or on client premises

- aimed at advanced (C1) learners of English

- ideal for lawyers practising English and drafting documents at work.

The course covers the following aspects:

the basic elements of legal writing ( vocabulary, grammar, register, planning and text organization)
Writing clinic:

- drafting various client care-letters (i.e. emails, advisory letters, complaints, a power of attorney, demand letters, etc.)

- drafting various contractual clauses (i.e. liquidated damages clauses, confidentiality clauses, restrictive covenants)

- drafting various types memoranda, notices, briefs, etc.

The detailed price list and schedule will be available from mid-August. The course starts on 3 October 2011.

Summer courses in LEC

We invite all students and lawyers wishing to practise their speaking skills and legal collocations to enrol on our short summer courses.

The required number of participants is 4 people. The course lasts 6 weeks and each 90-minute meeting is organised once a week. The range of topics covered is chosen by participants themselves, which guarantees motivating and relevant topics as well as a useful vocabulary range. During those six meetings everybody may focus on their pronunciation, fluency and self-confidence.

TOLES Examinations

There are still two TOLES sessions to come: 18 August 2011 – registration deadline 18 July and 24 November 2011 – registration deadline 24 October. Before any exam session you can take part in revision meetings (6 teaching hours).

Congratulations to all our course participants in LEC on successfully completing the courses and being awarded the certificates. We invite all those interested in our next year offer to book a place in a suitable group. The timetable and the prices will be available in mid August.

Please remember that this year we start our courses much earlier, at the end of September.

The TOLES Higher intensive course

Now you can still join our group in preparation for the TOLES Higher examination held on 16 June 2011. Your level of English should be at least B2 (upper-intermediate). The course comprises 22 meetings, 90 minutes each once a week.

We would like to congratulate the candidates for the TOLES exams held on 17 June 2010 on achieving high scores: the average was 81%.

Grammar Refresher

If you need intensive revision of the most useful grammar areas, this workshop has been designed for you. Build up your confidence when using tenses in English, the articles (a/the), prepositional phrases and modal verbs correctly.

It is a series of four weekly meetings, 90 minutes each, usually held on Friday afternoons.
